Everyone Can Code and Develop In Swift Curriculum

Apple has free teacher and student guides available in the Apple Book Store in the Books app on the iPad or Mac computer. The curriculum guides include ways to introduce coding concepts and key vocabulary, activities to help students better understand the concepts by through everyday activities, practice with block-based apps at the elementary level, and reflection activities that allow for using other apps to create multimedia responses that demonstrate student learning.

Coding Concepts In The Get Started With Code Guides

Unplugged Activities

The Get Started With Code guides contain unplugged activities that get students off their devices and up and moving to introduce coding concepts through familiar games and activities to help students understand and remember the concepts.

Block-Based Coding Apps

Block-based coding apps allow students to learn about coding concepts and practice them in apps without needing to know any coding languages. Students can simply drag and drop the code blocks to create a program.

Creating #BookSnaps With Markup On The iPad

Recently I had the opportunity to share the idea of using BookSnaps as an alternative to traditional reading logs for independent reading books.

BookSnaps allow students to quickly create shareable visual artifacts of applying close reading strategies while reading their independent reading books, make connections to the text, and share text snippets with classmates like a mini book talk by digitally annotating the text and saving the result as an image.

I received notification today that I have been selected to present 3 sessions for the 2019 ISTE Conference in Philadelphia!

My sessions will be on Personalizing Your Professional Development with the iPad, Telling Your Story With the Amazing Free TouchCast Classroom Studio, and Creating Digitally Enhanced Book Clubs with Schoology.

I'm looking forward to connecting with other educators at ISTE next summer and sharing tips, tricks, resources, and information about these topics. I hope some of you can join me at this great edtech event.
